The digital creative industry is a key sector for the Dutch economy. Currently, there are many changes taking place in the market in terms of technology, politics, and economics. Dealing with changes (resilience) is an important entrepreneurial competence. In the Verveci project (Strengthening the Resilience of the Creative Industry), BUas has researched the factors that determine the extent and manner in which companies in the digital-creative industry grow and adapt – in short, are resilient. On this site, a measurement tool is available that indicates how the organization’s resilience capability is and there is an overview of tools that can be used to improve resilience on specific factors.

Explanation benchmarking tool
The creative industry is an important industry that is expected to provide answers to significant societal developments and to be able to give meaning to technological advancements. To meet these expectations, a resilient industry is necessary, capable of responding to changes in the environment and within the organization itself (Click.nl).
Resilience is determined by the ability:
- to absorb changes in such a way that the organization continues to exist,
- to adapt to the new reality (adaptation),
- in line with the English proverb “never waste a good crisis,” changes can even serve as a catalyst to transform the organization.
After extensive research, BUas has developed a model that can measure resilience at 4 different levels: 1. Individual, 2. Team, 3. Organization, 4. Network. The model measures resilience across 6 factors in total. This model has been validated in a study involving over 200 companies from the creative industry.
What is measured?
At the individual level, the following factor is measured:
- Stable and constructive attitude: this includes aspects such as stable personality traits and feeling of contributing to the organization’s success.
At the team level, 2 factors are measured:
- Team characteristics: this includes the ability to inspire each other, a clear team vision, devising joint creative solutions, and strong personal bonds.
- Team coordination and planning: this includes clear task division, briefings, standards, checklists.
At the organisational level, 2 factors are measured:
- Organisational resources management: this includes flexible resource allocation, focus on quality delivered, portfolio management.
- Fit for the future: this includes awareness of competition, scalability, short payback time, and building alliances with strong partners.
At the network level, 1 factor is measured:
- Network strength: this includes the capacity to collaborate on projects with external parties, having long-term partnerships.
